Transfer your old 8mm and 16mm cine film to AVI video formats. We can supply the finished AVI files to USB flash drives. External hard drives or deliver the video files over the Internet to your computer devices.
At present we are providing a cine film to AVI service onto a USB flash drive, that the customer provided. However we can supply USB and external hard drives for you.

Video 8 transfer to digital.
We are at present in the process of a video 8 transfer to digital conversion job.
The job Involves transferring 26 video 8 tapes to AVI for the PC platform.
All tapes are first checked to make sure that there are no twists in the tape and that the cassette mechanism is not jammed in any way.
Tape head cleaning.
It is always recommended that the tape heads are cleaned on the play back machine on a regular bases. The fequencey of cleaning depends very much on the tapes and how dirty they are.
Method. Video 8 transfer to digital.
Video 8 video tape comes in 3 formats. These include Video 8, Hi 8 and Digital 8 video tape. The first 2 of these formats are analog and the Digital 8 is not surprisely digital.
Our transfer method is digital. Using Firewire connections between our video deck and computer with no quality loss.
Software capture.
For PC. We use Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier capture software for our video 8 transfer to digital service.
For Apple Mac users. We use Black magic design hardware. And Black Magic Media express software.
Storage of your video files.
External hard drive. The customer can supply an external hard drive for us to transfer the video files onto. Or we can buy one in for you.
USB stick. Again the customer can provide a USB stick for storing the files or we can buy one in for you. Please remember that storage capacity is much lower on USB flash drives than on external hard drives.
Cloud storage.
Video Image productions can also upload your video files to the cloud. Once the video is in the cloud we send you an email link so you can download your footage.
Picture cleaning.
All our video 8 transfer to digital conversions go through Time base correctors and 3D video filters. This helps stablise the picture and improve the colour information in the signal.
Buying super 8 film
Buying Super 8 film.
These days super 8 film is becoming harder to come buy. Just like vinyl LPs but not in such a big way. It is making a come back.
Buying super 8 film. The appeal of super 8 film is that it is not a perfect picture. The grain and picture frame skipping adds to the vintage look. I personally love the sound of the film running through the camera and the waiting for the roll to come back from the developers.

KODAK TRI-X Reversal Film 7266
A high-speed, panchromatic. Black-and-white film suitable for general interior photography with artificial light. It can also be used in daylight and is particularly useful for sports pictures. Taken at regular speed or slow motion in weak light. This film is characterised by excellent tonal gradation and sharpness. Process D-94A.
Old home movies
Old home movies let me begin at the start. Strange sentence I know.
You have been in the loft to have a clear out. Maybe a relative has passed on? Or perhaps you have had some old home movies laying around for years and decided to have them converted.
Where to begin?
One of the first things to sort out with your old home movies, is to identify what film format they are.
Film formats.
Old home movies come is different sizes. The most common sizes are 16mm cine film and 8mm cine film. 8mm film comes in 2 formats. The first is Standard 8 (or in the USA its know as regular 8). The second is super 8 cine film. Standard 8 film is 8mm film with sprocket holes which are square with rounded corners. Super 8 film has a larger frame size and the sprocket holes are like slits.
16mm film.
16mm film comes with and without sound. The silent version of 16mm film has sprockets holes on both sides of the film. Sound 16mm film has sprockets holes on one side and the sound track on the other. 16mm sound can have a magnetic or an optical sound stripe. 16mm sound film was shot at 24 frames per second.
9.5 mm film.
This film is one of the first small gauge formats to be produced. It is very easy to recognise. It has its sprocket holes in the centre of the film.
